Der Es Trenc stellt ein empfindliches Öko-System dar, das nicht nur durch touristisch geförderten Dünenrückgang sehr gefährdet ist. Auch die Überfrequentierung von mittlerweile über 10000 Besuchern ist eine ständige Gefahr für die Flora und Fauna.
Das Naturschutzgebiet Es Trenc ist Lebensraum für seltene Vogelarten und viele Mikroorganismen.

Himantopus himantopus Die Salinen beim Es Trenc stellen Brutplätze für die durch ihre langen Beine bekannten Stelzenläufer und Seeregenpfeifer dar, wobei erstere sehr zahlreich beobachtet werden können. Aleppokiefern und Wacholder bieten ihnen Schutz und Nahrung.

Innerhalb der letzten 30 Jahre verlor der Strand bereits 22 Meter an Sandfläche. Einerseits trägt jeder Strandbesucher durchschnittlich 80 Gramm Sand in Schuhen, Haaren und Handtüchern davon. Andererseits ist eine zurück gehende Vegetation für den Dünenrückgang verantwortlich. Dann sind noch die Anker der Boote zu nennen. Daher plant die Regierung Mallorcas, Teile des Strandes für die Öffentlichkeit zu sperren.

Seit einigen Jahren werden die Dünen mit Pfosten und Seilen geschützt, um den Menschen und seine Fahrzeuge davon abzuhalten, die Dünen zu betreten. Nur so kann erneuter Pflanzenwuchs sicher gestellt werden, deren Wurzeln den eigentlich natürlichen Rückgang der Dünen stoppen sollen.

Dennoch sorgen nicht nur die Strand-Touristen für die Erosion. Während zum einen die Strand-Bar-Betreiber zu nennen sind, deren Umgang mit Restmüll alles andere als vorbildlich bezeichnet werden darf, zerstört sich die Natur manchmal auch mit den eigenen Waffen: Unkraut.

Die ursprünglich aus Südafrika stammende Bodenkriecher-Pflanze breitet sich im Hinterland des Es Trenc sehr schnell aus und verdrängt die einheimischen Pflanzenarten. Das balearische Umweltministerium reagierte schnell. Täglich werden die Bodernkriecher-Pflanzen entfernt. Teilweise kommen hier an einem Tag 4 Tonnen zusammen.

Inzwischen informiert das balearische Umweltministrerium die Besucher des Strandes über das Öko-System Es Trenc mit großflächigen Tafeln. Sie sind in Colonia de Sant Jordi angebracht am Beginn des Platja dels Estanys, welcher gerne als Es Trenc verkauft wird, tatsächlich aber einen eigenen Namen hat.
